Alessandra Ambrosio at amfAR's 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival

Alessandra Ambrosio looked every inch the terrestrial high-fashion mermaid in her seafoam Roberto Cavalli gown, beachy hair, and glittery extras. On anyone else, it might have looked slightly tacky and completely boring - picture almost any other celebrity wearing it (Uma Thurman, Reese Witherspoon, Isla Fisher) and it falls flat. Perhaps it was the seafoam green - a hard color to pull of with panache, but striking against the VS Angel's perennial golden glow (looks like someone's been making use of that Beach Sexy™ Daily Glow Gradual Tan Moisturizer!). The sultry, smoky eyes and tousled-yet-polished waves lent an exotic aura, as if she'd been lolling on some beach in the Bahamas (looking picture perfect, of course).

The only thing that didn't quite click were the sparkly accessories. The heart bracelet looked fabulous from afar, but the closeup shot looked too much like costume jewelry for something that probably cost the entire mortgage on the average American house. And don't you think that one on each wrist is overdoing it? The clutch, too, looked like something advertised in Seventeen's under-$25 section (if they even have one, that is, since I'm not exactly an avid reader). Oh, and the mini train. If you're offering to sweep the floor with your couture gown, don't be stingy about it! Either go all out, or cut it off; otherwise, it just looks like whoever made your dress forgot to hem the back. But she more than made up for it with those beautiful dangly earrings - if you wear long hair, you can't exactly wear diamond studs. These were plenty visible, and would have looked horrific on their own, but somehow worked with the entire outfit.
