Givenchy Resort 2011

Sunday, June 20, 2010

Riccardo Tisci's fifth year at Givenchy yielded an elegant, formal, and refined collection. As usual, Tisci incorporated his signature palette of crimson, black, and white; this time, he worked leopard print into A-line dresses and stretchy leggings. Sharp-shouldered blazers, strategic lace insets, and oversized cross necklaces reflected the trademark austerity of the French fashion house. Sheer column gowns had an otherworldly yet modern appeal (when worn over a black shift). A voluminous, gathered drop-waist dress paired with golden bondage sandals was high fashion at its finest. And although most of the collection wasn't fit for everyday wear, the collection made a statement in a season where other designers played it safe.
