There's a reason why Carolina Herrera's designs are red-carpet favorites.

Similar to Oscar de la Renta, her classic, feminine dresses appeal to the soignee, polished (and often over-30) set. Not to say they can't be worn by the youthful - a frilled black cocktail dress and a tiered pink number could easily appeal to a younger crowd. But you won't find the shapeless trapeze shifts, sequin minis, or lurex skinny pants that enchant many of her contemporaries. As always, Herrera ignored current trends and based the collection on her own elegant, timeless style. In particular, one look in the collection recalled the designer's oft-worn ensemble: a white oxford shirt tucked into a long black skirt. Herrera's signature pantsuit made an appearance as well in the form of wide-leg cuffed pants and a gray houndstooth blazer. Despite the waistlessness of recent runway shows, at Carolina Herrera, the hourglass reigned supreme with satin belts and nipped bodices. Herrera also experimented with contrasting colors and materials; vivid fuschia balanced the formality and stiffness of a silk jacquard print, while textured organza prevented a pink dress from becoming too frou-frou.
