Alexander Wang Resort 2011

Saturday, June 05, 2010

Though his name might not carry the weight of Chanel or Dior, Alexander Wang has carved out an unpretentious reputation for making clothes on the cutting-edge of cool. The young, hip, and trendy flock to his line for slouchy tees, oversize tanks, and open-toe boots. With his resort collection, Wang demonstrated that knack for effortlessness with drapey shifts, pleated shorts, and comfy coccoon sweaters.

Though I don't have the courage to pair nerdy white ankle socks with Teva-like sandals, the confusing footwear didn't distract from the uncomplicated ease of the collection. Among other pieces, the satiny green skirt and patterned beige jumpsuit are the perfect additions to a summer wardrobe. And unlike other big brands on the high-fashion circuit, separates usually go for under $300 (which seems inexpensive compared to the $1000-plus price tags on Givenchy or Versace).
