Lanvin Hearts H&M Haute Couture
Monday, November 22, 2010
Our lust for Lanvin, unfortunately, is too often checked by a hefty pricetag. Luckily, for those of us who aren't trust fund heiresses, H&M provided us with an answer to our sartorial cravings. The fast-fashion retailer is known for its high-end pairings, but its latest collaboration with Alber Elbaz was singularly spectacular. The label's signature silhouettes - puffed shoulders, sculptural ruffles, and satin bows were all present in a cacophony of clashing patterns, accessorized by feathered hair pieces, leather gloves, and leopard-print tights. Unlike other half-hearted high-fashion-meets-mass-market attempts, where the finished product bears no association to the designer's original style, the capsule collection looked every inch the real thing, from the veiled hats to the beribboned heels - at a fraction of the price. The designs, however, are by no means cheap: most of the dresses retail at $199. Still, considering that the number on a real Lanvin can read $2000 and up, it's well worth the money.
