The sheer (no pun intended) ubiquity of translucency on the runway made a compelling argument for its versatility. The lucid fabrics reflected the season's emphasis on lightness, injecting refreshing vigor into sportswear, cocktail dresses, and corsets alike. A simple swath of diaphanous material transformed even the most basic silhouettes into couture confections. Some textiles were so transparent that they created the illusion of bare skin; others came just short of opaque. From strategically slashed to underwear-baring, there was an option for everyone (yes, even your grandma).
