Hervé Léger Resort 2011

Monday, June 14, 2010

Though the Azrias manage three lines, Hervé Léger is arguably their most recognizable. The famous bandage dress has spawned countless imitations, some for as cheap as $20 (at Forever 21). However, the mark of a true Hervé is recognizable: flawlessly skintight, silkily smooth, and outrageously expensive. But if there is a dress worth dropping a grand (or two) for, it's one of these fabulously slinky creations. This season, the Max Azrias churned out yet another lustworthy collection with a showing of patterned colorblock dresses, delicately ruffled minis, and skin-baring cutout maillots.

However, some questionable ideas emerged, including uneven fringe that detracted from the sleekness of the dress and made it more midwestern than Milan. And yes, there are bandage skirts and bandage tops, but bandage leggings are a bad idea from the start. (I doubt even Forever 21 will take up that trend, although you never know). Coupled with their nude color, they gave the model's legs a curiously mummified effect.

Despite the, um, fringiness of a couple of looks, the collection promised to sell - after all Hervé Léger is a failsafe. Celebs have a fatal propensity towards wearing anything tight and short on the red carpet; accordingly, Hervé Léger is a hit with the Hollywood crowd. This collection, like every other before it, provided young starlets with more opportunities to wear the same dress, just with a different pattern and a couple more cutouts. And inevitably, someone will try to wear those bandage pants - I just wish them the best of luck.
