Keep It Classy

In keeping with his less-is-more aesthetic, Tomas Maier turned out a restrained collection for Resort. From a breezy parachute dress to a slim cardigan over a crisp trench, the pieces felt fresh, not fussy. Bright, strappy sandals and colorblocked platforms were the perfect counterpoint to creamy beige, leathery cognac, and sunny brights. A series of tailored beige shifts were as squeaky clean as the models' seemingly makeupless faces. The same could not be said of two neon maxi shirtdresses, which sported an unfortunate set of harnesses - and not the casually chic kind spotted at Rag & Bone or Hermès last season. Unless you plan to go bungee jumping in your new dress, there's no practical reason - aesthetic or otherwise - to attach velcro straps to your midriff. Apart from that misstep, resort was a solid (if not entirely innovative) performance from Maier.
