Burberry Does It Best

Saturday, December 18, 2010

If the mark of a good designer is to make you want to buy the product, then Christopher Bailey fits that description to a tee. While Miuccia Prada and Karl Lagerfeld might manufacture the singular "it" product of the moment, it's rare to find a collection that makes you want to purchase every single item. The British brain behind Burberry never fails to hit the mark with each season, this one included. Gone was the python-encased rocker of spring; studs and spikes were replaced by shiny buttons and bow-topped belts. Luxe black fur, a smattering of sequins, and tall black boots lent the collection a quiet glamour. Best of all were the trousers - long, lean, and perfectly tailored. Even the menswear pants struck just the right balance of slouchy and formfitting. But even if Bailey is a master at the leggy silhouette, the brand's traditional forte is outerwear. Pre-fall was no exception. Military coats, neon puffers, funnel neck trenches, and tweed toppers proved that Burberry is still unparalleled in its customary field.
